    Default New to site

Hello - my name is Pat and I'm new to this site. Like seeing people that are in this hobby that live close to me (W. Milton). Looking to meet up with as many of you as I can, but I have 3 kids that keep me hopping more than the proverbial one-legged man.
I have a 110 Oceanic that I just started up (had a 75 gallon fish only for 20 year). I don't have any corals yet, but I'm hoping to change that soon with the help of you guys. My nitrates spiked when I switched tanks, so I am in the process of lowering them, almost there, but I'm also battling a bryopsis plumosa bloom. So, once my nitrates are gone (about 10 now) I will be looking for some frags if anybody has any they want to sel, or better yet, give away.

Welcome to the site! Always glad to see new members! As for the kids, I have four so I know what you mean.

I seen your thread on that other forum, did you read the info in the link? I am working on killing my Bryopsis now. Just make sure if you try anything, becarefull, and pull out as much as you can before you try to kill it.

I may have a frag or two for you.

In the mean time, here are a few threads to check out!!

thanks for the replies, i'll look you guys up for the offers when i think i'm ready.
i'm putting the magnesium in, but i'm not sure if it is working, i don't have a magnesium meter to tell what my level is, and that is dangerous. i don't have anything but some fish in it now, so no corals will be harmed. it's really 1 big chunk of rock that has the stuff, i mean, it's all over thetop of the tank, but this 1 piece may get a good bath in some hot water. there is nothing else on the rock, it was a piece of dry i just added when i set it up last month.

Sadly I doubt that will kill it. You NEED to test if your going to do this. Keep an eye on your calcium, PH, Alk, and Mag. Do some serious reading on Reef chemistry, and the balance of the formentioned tests you need to do.

If I were you. I would wait until the tank cycles, and nitrates are undetectable. Then pull out as much as you can. If its still an issue then dose Epsom salt. If you don't wait, and you don't remove it, you are just fueling the next round of algae growth.

Higher ALK and no Light works for many!!
Some have had luck with Rabbitfish eating it but they never helped me.
