    Default Hello from Huber Heights

Howdy, just stumbled across the site and have been enjoying reading all the posts.
I recognized a lot of usernames from RC and WORC. Looks like they have been holding out on me.
I am a SPS addic with a small 55 gallon reef and 33 gallon grow out tank sharing a common sump.

Those that know me know I love sharing pictures.

Yes I have some updates, thanks for asking.

The tank got a bacteria infection or something that caused me to lose a bunch of SPS and Zoanthids over the course of a couple of months. They were RTNing and could not stop even with massive water changes. It was very frustrating watching a tank that has been up and running fine for 6 years suddenly go downhill so fast and nothing I could do to stop it.

Whatever the problem was I feel pretty good that it has run its course.

The first thing I noticed was that the daily calcium and magnesium uptake stopped. Then Zoanthids where the first corals to show stress. They would just shrivel up and dissolve.
Then the SPS started RTNing all from the base up similar to having aalk swing low. I would sometimes loose two or three corals in 24-48 hours. Spent a bunch of money and time trying to figure out what was wrong. The only way I could stop the RTN of a coral was frag it but then it would start all over again a few days or week later. The problem finally just went away on its own. Which is really frustrating that I dont know what casued the issues

    Here is what I lost

    Here is the tank today

The really wierd thing is there are a couple of corals in my propgation tank (connected to main tank by common sump) that flourished growth and color during the 2 months of RTNing, now that the event has run its course they are back to a more drab color and slowed growth. I also have some tiny specs of SPS corals growing on the glass and egg crate in the prop tank a little larger then sand when I first noticed. So I wonder if one of the acro's spawned which could have contaimated the water and casued the issues as well. I guess we will never know what happen, I am just glad it is all finally back to normal again.

Here is an updated video of the frag/propagation tank. Not the greatest quality with my point and shoot camera but turned out okay

Sorry to hear you lost some coral, I away hate watch a coral die within a few hours and not being able to stop it.

I would guess you will never know the cause because it could have been any number of things.

The frag tank looks great, now I know who to call if i ever need a coral.
