Is there a downside to putting a 50watt heater in a 3 gallon tank? Would it be to much? I have a little eclipse 3gallon I'm trying to find a heater for without buying one.

It should not hurt anything, it will just not run long when it comes on. Just hope it never sticks on!

hydor has a small heater the size of a credit card. I have it in my pico. works real well and only about 12 bucks.
okay, but then add about $10 for shipping. It then becomes over $20, thats more then what I paid for the tank.

Hydor mini's are a real nice heater. Just if the 50 watt sticks or is off a little it could cause you a lot of problems.
Not around me there isn't
