Going to be redoing my canopy, was wondering how close to the water I could put my bulb? I have a 120mm fan pulling air out the back is pretty much open. 175watt se

just watch the temp of the tank, raise the light if the water gets hot. Start ar about 8" above

Are you talking with the bulbs 8" or the top of the canopy?

really it should be higher than that for the whole spectrum to pan out anything less than 12" makes the light basicaly put out laser beams into the water and end up cooking your corals...

I kept my coral at about 8" for over a year now

Mine are at aroun 10 right now but will be at 4-5" on the next tank.

Does the depth of the tank need to be taken into effect?

For me it does, but for most no, the depth would mainly be for what watts you want.

i run my lights at 16" off the water. like Ryan stated it could burn your corals pending the bulb type depth of corals etc.
