How quick do Yellow Tangs grow? Are they hard to keep?

Easy to keep and they grow fast, no tang would live more than a month in a small aquarium. Most tangs need room to move.

yea tangs need a large aquairum at least 150 unless its a tomini tang and even then you should have a large aquarium.

like eric said though yellow tangs are pretty easy to keep as long as the tank is very stable

What about a manderin? I have a scooter blenny would they compete for food?

yes they would compete for food, even in my old 180 I could not keep both alive. They just eat to much live food. A 75 is recommended for 1 alone. I want to try again in my new tank but will only go with 1.
I think you need to look at upgrading. There are 75 - 90 gallon tanks available all the time for low prices. This would let you better serve your scooter and let you get more of the fish you have always wanted.

I agree with both. I have both a yellow tang and a mandrian. the tang was sold to me when I was a real noobie for my 12 gal ( I didnt no any better ) it quickly got stressed and got HLLE (not a pretty sight) so i upgraded to a 100 gal and fortanatly it recovered and is now happy. the mandrian did not go in til my tank was over a year old. the tank has plenty of live rock and also a fuge that grows alot of pods. my mandrian eats nothing but pods and it hunts all day long, they are great fish but it sad to see then when they dont have enough food.

One problem not everybody has spare money laying around to purchase something of that size. The majority of fish that i want will fit in my 20g. I was just wondering because i say Tangs all the time in small tanks. BTW, my scooter been with me since the 10 gallon days almost 2 years ago.

yea scooters are much more likely to take to frozen also. you can teach mandrins this also but its pretty hard to do and it doesnt always work.

what kind of scooter do you have? do you have the beautiful red? those are my fav...

youngtimothy great job with the yellow tang it looks a lot better now.

you pounding it with vita chem, garlic, and spirulina???
