My roommates 90 gallon saltwater tank is having problems with ick. It will come for a day or two then leave for a couple days and come back again. It's been doing this for a little over a month now and we were curious as to why this is and good methods of ick removal.

What is happening is the cycle of ick, removing all fish for a few weeks will kill off the ick. If he has fish in there you can just feed well and they should be ok.

My fish get Ick from time to time. I don't worry about it to much, the two cleaner shrimp I have seem to take good care of it.

He does have a cleaner shrimp so I guess that would keep in check. What or when is the point of worry with ick?

Usually the fish start looking back when it is to much, you just have to watch it carefully. Try turning the lighs off for a day or two, seems to mess up the cycle.

the best way to treat it is to remove the fish and treat them in a quarantine tank.

Is copper the best treatment if there are no inverts?

I would only use copper in a Quarantine tank because you never know if you will add corals someday.
