Hello everyone!

I have a 30 gallon that I am wanting to turn into a refugium for my 65g, but have a few questions first. So, I guess I am a little confused about the whole sump, refugium, sumpfuge thing. I have an idea of how I wanna set this up. So here goes... I am thinkin about making 3 separate chambers with the 1st being where the DT drains into, middle being the fuge and last being the return. So, one of my questions is, what do I put as far as filter media in the 1st and last chamber? Or would I not need any type of filters, since the fuge would be I guess the filter? Would this be considered like a sumpfuge? Or just a refugium? Isn't a sump basically the same just without the fuge? Beginner questions, lol. Just trying to learn the difference. Oh, the only equipment I have that would need to go in the fuge would be a heater, I don't have a skimmer. I appreciate any suggestions :)

Thanks,
~Jen

i have a rdsb (remote deep sand bed), live rock, cheato algae, phos reactor, skimmer and a filter sock in my sump for filtration. i consider my 55g tank as a sump with a refugium section in it. refugium = refuge or a place to grow pods/algae/sponges etc.... without being eaten by things in your display tank.

I have a sump with live rock and a section of cheato. I am going to add a second tank for just cheato.
