Has anyone ever put a not live sponge in your refugium for pods to grow on and in.
I have seen that some online companies send pods this way.

So to experiment I took a new sponge for a hang on filter and put it in my new above the tank refugium.
I used a rock to hold it down.

Do you think pods will use it as a home?

its porous and has plenty of cover for them, I think they would take refuge in there. are you wanting to do away with the chaeto already?

I threw out the sponges that came with mine. I was afraid of nitrates.

This has been my exsperence too! The only downfall to doing this is the sponge will trap nitrates/debri and you wont be able to clean it without killing your pods. I have this problem with my frag tank, it has an eclipse hood and I left the filter cartridge in there and now they are brreding in it and I cant replace or clean it, so in my opinion it can be a good thing or a bad thing.

yeah I think you are correct, from what I have seen. You would remove them and add them to the display. The pods then leave it and you can clean it.

I would think that a small piece of sponge would not hurt. Maybe try a live sponge of some sort.

Look for a set of sieves in the 250-50 sizes. Then you can separate the good from the bad....
