I got a question about the water that is made ahead and stored for top-offs and water changes. Do you all run heaters in your water holding containers? I would think the top-off water "no" since its only added a little at a time, which shouldn't effect the temp very much at all. The water change saltwater is what I am wondering about. I am thinking about my 20 gallon set up (30 total with sump). A 5 gallon per week WC is like a 16.6666% change in volume. Is that enough to effect the temp in the tank?
Also when mixing the water i used to run a pump in the barrel for a day to let the water and salt mix good. Is it a good idea to run the pump 24/7?

I use to run a heater when I first started in the salt hobby. But, now I don't. It's just room temperature. I do run a power head 24/7.

I mix 200 gallons at a time in my garage, so I do heat in the winter. Doing small water changes can still affect temperature. Personally, I would heat the water to tank temp before doing the change. Then turn heater off if water is kept inside until next change. I would keep the water moving with a power head.

I do not heat top off water, I do heat the water change water. I also run power heads in both containers (30 gallon brutes) to aerate the water as well as keep it circulated.

I do not heat my top off water but heat my water change water. I have a heater in the container running as long as there is water in it.

I don't heat the top off water, but I do heat the salt water. Both containers are in my basement.

I do not heat my top off, I do heat my water change water in 5 gal buckets with an old broke heater that stays on constantly. I dont mix up big batches of saltwater I mix up 5 gal buckets worth ( I like doing alot of small water changes) and I do run a power head in the 5 gallon buckets when I mix in the salt but I do not run a heater or a powerhead in my brute can full of RO water
