We've been noticing a red growth in our 8 gallon nano that started out as red tube-like stems on our Pipe Organ coral. Then we began noticing red bubbles forming on the clean up crew's shells and on the live rock, and I've noticed the red "tube" things on the pipe organ are starting to turn leafy...
I've never seen this before so any help is appreciated. I've included pics as well. One of a hermit and the other of the pipe organ.

Ugh. Sounds like a chore. Maybe I can convince my boyfriend HE needs to clean it out, since this is supposed to be HIS tank. Thanks for the help -_-

I am not sure on the red leafy/tubelike stuff on your coral. would not hurt to research this.

Ha! I was in Jack's Middletown last week just to see if they had any decent live rock. I looked at some of their crabs and they had a small section with maybe 25 crabs and everyone had these little red bubbles on their back. I asked about it and said, "That's pretty, what are the little red bubbles?" Luckily the fella knew more than I did and responded "Red bubble algae which is nothing you want to invite into your tank." I was ready to get a few. Thank god everyone at Jacks isn't clueless. They sold me a chocolate chip star and a small xenia frag at once and I didn't research it for almost a day and a half. No more Fred Durst - Chocolate Starfish... He is at Jacks for someone elses tank.

Haha clever name for a chocolate chip star. I'm a Limp Bizkit fan myself, lol.
Actually I had the time today to help my boyfriend remove the nastiness from his tank. Thankfully it's only a little 8gal so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Chemiclean is a product that will kill the red slime completely and says it doesn't damage your biological filter (around $15) but I guess it's caused from overfeeding which brings up phosphates and the algae sucks up the phos so fast and absorbs it, so it doesn't show up as a high phosphate level on a test. Water changes, less light, and less food are all recommended by different people. I usually try to be a little more accurate with the brine shrimp in the baster when I see it. (I'm a terrible shot)
