How many here have an Apple iPad?
We saw some nice financing on them from Apple so we went ahead and got 2 of the iPad 2s.
Do you like them?
My daughter has one assigned to her at school and they use it several times a week.
Our goal is to get several education apps for her.
Plus I will be able to read Coral Magazine better than on my iPhone.

Nope. I've got an HP Touchpad though. It's another tablet, but it runs Android and WebOS.

Eric. I hate you.
Carrie. I hate you.
j/k - I am still on the fence about the right tablet for me. I was the same way about my smartphone, althought the jury is still out on that ;)

Corry Brian :) Could not pass up 12 months no interest.
My daughter wanted her own but I could not afford 3 even with no interest for 12 months.
I have enjoyed my iPhone so I thought having a large version would be nice. Plus when the school system using them I felt it best to get what they use.
I ended up just getting the WI-FI version without the 3G. I do not see us using them outside of the house much.

Plus the world is practically made of wifi nowadays.

Ipad - yes
Samsung Galaxy Tab "Android" - yes
Which do I use more.....the android. I also see them on campus "I work for the local University" and yet to see a REAL use for them beyond email and surfing the internet. Those uses are coming, however they are expensive purpose written apps.
As far as entertainment value, I find plenty of apps for either the Ipad or Android, so I wouldn't give either of them a advantage.
Screen resolution is a bit better Ipad, however the responsiveness of the screens is equal. If your looking for off brand units, be careful here, a lot of the cheaper models don't have as nice or responsive screens.
I also would not buy a 3G package for them....go with the wifi versions.
Which do I prefer.....the Android. I find there are a lot more apps that are applicable to my job. I also like the 7" device better, it's easier to hold and a LOT easier to type on. A 10" device "ipad" is just to large and heavy. If I were to spend money on a new one right now I would either jump on the Amazon Fire or the Nook Tablet. You can't beat $200 for a Android based tablet "Amazon Fire". It has a few drawbacks, but for the price I would deal with them.

listen, all, I'm typing on an 8 year old ThinkPad T30... Carrie, I tried really hard to get an HP TouchPad, but was thwarted at every turn. Eric, I understand. I'm am relieve that your youngling hasn't yet been assimilated.
I have been looking at and comparing the Kindle Fire to the new Nook. I have concluded that if the Nook was able to access Amazon content, it would be the perfect storm. Alas, they both have their pluses and minuses, and are fairly well balanced, but just to the "I'm not ready to commit" side of the fence.

Thanks for the review, lots of good information.
My mother in law is upgrading her Amazon kindle to the kindle Fire soon. My wife, Step-daughter, and mother in law have all liked their Kindles.
Just wait until you see my case I got for my iPad its huge :) It will be well protected.

One major drawback that I've heard about the nook, but haven't verified is that there is only 1 gig of memory for user apps. The rest of the memory is reserved for Nook stuff....but I don't know what that is. I haven't looked at them enough.

on the Nook you can add an SD card, expanding your memory. The Kindle Fire is a similar situation, but it has a couple more Gigs available to the user. I don't recall if it can be expanded, though.

Kindle Fire does not have expandable memory, however they offer you storage on a cloud drive.

I don't completely trust the cloud, it's shady :)

I have iCloud on my phone now, stupid so far. Plus you need to pay monthly for enough space to even really use it.

HP decided to get out of the market and ordered retailers to drop the touchpads to $100. Dusty and I got really lucky. We waited outside Best Buy for them, but they had sent theirs back to HP. Luckly, we went to Meijer and bought them for $400 each. We waited, knowing the price was going to drop (HP ordered it) and came back a week later and they refunded $600 ($300 each, knocking them down to $100 each).
