Okay, so awhile ago the Marineland Stealth heaters were recalled. I never had an issue with mine, so I kept it. After all, it was only heating my water change barrels so what's the harm? Today the darn thing started SMOKING!!! Not kidding, smoke, smell, and a ticking/spitting noise. My guess is the plastic cracked, although I couldn't find a crack. The heater was visibly burnt. Nice thing? I brought it back to PetSmart (no clue when I bought it) and they replaced it with an Aqueon heater. So...even if your Stealth is working fine, BRING IT BACK!!! I'm so glad it wasn't one of my tank heaters.

OOoooo I was under the impression that it was just the Pro models. I have about 10 of those running in tanks right now:o

Mine was not one of the new models with the indicator lights. I didn't have a receipt.

I owned several of these and never had a problem with them. I think if they are dropped, placed in cold water while still hot, is when issues may arise. I dont have these heaters anymore. I use titanium heaters.

I used to swear by them. It was in the barrel for a week off, I turned it on and a few minutes later, it was smoking. I didn't drop it, or put it in cold water on. No clue what the heck was wrong with it. Just faulty I guess. Will never be buying another. Titanium is the way to go. I do like my Visi Aquas.
