I can remember when I was new and first started coming around the online forums. I would say hello I'm new and then that would be it for a long time. I wanted to get involved in the discussions taking place in the threads but as I was new I really did not know much and was kinda leary about saying the wrong things or feeling a fool because I did not know what I was talking about ( I still dont know....lol) I was on most of the sites just reading other peoples posts and comments and tried to make sense of everything. My main problem was that I was not asking questions or getting involved because being a newbie back then made me feel less important to all the big boys and girls that seemed to know about everything. I found out later that by being a new member that I was probably the most important type of person on the sites because I had a multitude of questions roiling around inside my head. These questions ( I found out later) challenged the older more experienced members to remember where they first started and to share what they had learned and experienced along the way. Getting some years under my belt and becoming active in this club has been the key to many of my successes in the hobby. I have failed at many things I have tried in this hobby as well. It was when I started to ask questions and share about my experiences that I felt welcome and a part of this great club. Thanks for being here all my Saltgeek friends! Had you shunned me and laughed at me I probably would not be here today, but you did not do that, rather you welcomed my awkward questions and comments and tried to help me understand what I was doing.

I can still remember my first time saying hi and I am sharing this with all you new people because although I have been around a short time I still have questions and need support often. Thanks for being honest and genuine!

So if you are new here, dont get caught up in all the threads that overwhelm ya....just ask questions and share about your tank, your struggles, your failures, your dreams of what you want your tank to be and what it means to you. But most of all, never feel less than anyone else on this site. We are all in this together.

Andy
