I have had so many interesting things happen in my FOWLR (fish only with live rock) tank that I thought I'd start sharing them.

The other day I was feeding my FOWLR tank and my bird wrasse (Jerry) grabs a big piece of shrimp. The green wolf eel (Flotsam) wants the same piece. She grabs Jerry's "beak" and attempts to eat him and the shrimp. I'm screaming hysterically, remembering the story about the burmese that ate the crocodile (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4313978.stm). I reach in and smack the Flotsam's side and she finally releases Jerry. Poor Jerry still has a mark on his beak.

Poor guy!
Maybe you should feed more often :)

Pt. 2

Decided to give Gizmo (the porcupine puffer) a piece of a crab leg so he can keep his beak from over growing. Aku (the lionfish) grabs the whole piece in one gulp. Mind you, this piece is about 3 1/2 inches long. He sat at the bottom of the tank the rest of the day. He's acting normal today, so I don't know if he spat it back out or if he can pass it or not. Stupid fish.

lol
I would think he going eat it over time but that would have been the time to feed Gizmo again
You just need to get some cheap hermit crabs or snails for him to eat.

He gets those too. Very varied diet.

New Entry:

Today I moved my cleaner wrasse over to the fish-only, thinking he would get more food from the bigger fish. Uhhh, bad idea. Lionfish and bird wrasses are not smart enough to realize he is there for cleaning the other fish, and not for food. After the lionfish put him in his mouth, spit him out, and then continued chasing him, he's back in the reef tank.

Yeah that was wild today. Poor little dude had all the big boys after him today. Hope he is ok.

Pt. 4

I threw in a few Formula 2 flakes for the veggie eating fish today. Gizmo (porcupine puffer) decided he was hungry too. He bit one of Aku's (volitan lionfish) fins! Luckily he didn't damage it at all (must have realized the mistake). Aku turned around and almost ate Gizmo. Vixen (one-spot foxface) freaked out and pooped.

On a side note, I know porcupine puffers are known to eat some lionfish in the wild, but I've heard good reports from others that have kept them in tanks together. I guess I'm going to have to watch them.

WARNING! GRAPHIC & UPSETTING POST!

Short story, Gizmo passed away last night. "How" is below:

He somehow got stuck on the powerhead and his intestines got pulled around it. I turned off the powerhead as soon as I noticed him. He kept pulling, and his organs just kept coming out. I couldn't get him unstuck and so I helped pull him off. His organs ripped. He swam frantically around the tank. He looked to be in a lot of pain and I knew there was no way he was going to survive. I put him in a bucket and put him outside and he fell asleep and passed away. I really miss my little Gizzy. It's been a very hard day.
