I now have 6 damsels, a clown, a puffer, scooter blinney, and a few snails working with a small budget but would like to make it a very nice tank and maybe go reef down the road

I thought I knew you :) I helped you with some of the fish & snails at Jack's & told you about Saltgeeks. How's everyone doing? Is the valentini puffer leaving the snails alone?

It would be beneficial to put some type of overflow and sump on the system in the future. It really helps a lot.

If you are near Troy you should try Aquatic Specialists, they have a great selection and Justin will help you.

I would add more Live Rock for the scooter, they eat live foods and will need live rock to live off of. You will grow to hate having 6 damsels in the tank, they get mean and some get ugly after they get older.

Those Emperor Filters will not work long for Saltwater tanks, I would recommend getting an overflow and sump.
Those lights will work for now but if you get into corals you will want something better.

Aquatic Specialists is a great store. Justin gets my money on a regular basis :)

The scooter blenny is eating prepared foods, but it would be good to get more live rock. How much do you have?

i have planned on better filtering system just need help getting the right stuff tank is not drilled for anything so is it possibale to do without drilling or can i drill it myself?

You can get hang on tank overflows, but most people opt for drilling. Both ways have their pros and cons. Since the tank is already filled, a hang-on would be better. They retail for a decent penny, but it's not usually too hard to find plans or even someone local who is willing to make a custom overflow

I know Justin at Aquatic Specialists has some overflows at his store. You may want to check it out.

I see online lots made with pvc. Is this a good way to go and do you use the over flow to filter the tank or is that done differently?

The overflow is used to get the water from the tank to the sump, in the sump is were the you would filter the water with a skimmer, refugium, and/or Live Rock

One Vortech MP40 would do fine for now, they are pricey though. I have some powerheads laying around I could sell for pretty cheap, I can see what I have if you want.

You need more than one. If I were you, I would start collecting equipment like we talked about. Buy all your rock, lights, skimmer, and start over. Given how you have started it will be MUCH cheaper to just do it right. :D

With only 10lbs of live rock 1 MP40 would be enough for now in a 4' tank. IMO. But it sounds like it is out of the question anyway.
