I am in need of a Controller that can run 1000 to 1500 watts of heaters. Anyone know of one that can handle it?

You take a normal one and use it for a switch for an external relay system

I have one now but with 1000 watts plugged in the cord gets hot. I think a relay system would do the same thing.

The relay turns on another power source. The temp controller is only running the relay.

I have my 2 400watt heaters running off a single outlet that is controller by a relay. I wanted to make my heaters failsafe to sticking on so I used 2 circuit off my reefkeeper controller to turn them on. The first circuit will energize the relay and the second circuit puts the supply power to the same relay. Only bad thing is it uses 2 of the channels of my dc8 but worth the peace of mind. You could use just one circuit to turn on and off the relay and have the relay wire hot so that when the relay comes on it will send power to a separate outlet box for the heater to plug into. I think #4 and #8 on the dc8 are lower amperage circuits so I avoid them with any of my higher load items.

This is what I am going to go with I think: http://www.etcsupply.com/ranco-etc111000000-digital-temperature-controller-prewired-p-87.html

I had that controller before i got my whole tank controller. If you watch on reefcentral you can pick up a single controller for about 35-40 bucks. Are you running a chiller? You might want to go the route of a dual controller which does both a heater and chiller.
