so what do you do when your tank is getting full? sell some corals? no........ add a frag tank to the system! so i was at AQSP and Justin showed me a small 7g or so frag tank. after thinking how easy this would be to hook up i had to get it.

Nice,
You would not need many, I would recommend to 12kit from RapidLED.com

you think i could get by with the 6 LED unit? the tank is a little smaller than a standard 10 gallon.

i may go with 8 maybe....dunno. now that i think about it i need to keep this for lower light stuff, my lights are frying some lps and zoas as is. hopefully i can put my chalices it, that way they could get fed easier.

well i tried to order two 4 LED units (8 total) but they are out so they said they can give me 10% off a 12 LED unit. so with it being about the same price i went with that. should be here tomorrow...we will see how it does.

the only thing that concerns me is the LED unit is only like 1.5" so they are in a straight line. hope it gets decent coverage width wise.

thanks.
i drilled holes at both ends of the acrylic shield and put plastic screws at the ends to keep the light from falling in the tank. i also put some test frags in it to see how they do. everything has opened up already. i still need to build some higher racks to drop in.

So, how is the frag tank these days Jeremy?
jeremyreef
11-27-2010, 10:36 AM
The frag tank is okay, I am about to give up on a losing battle with algae though. the whole tank needs a fresh start and I have decided not to sink any more money in it. so most likely the whole system will be up for sale soon. I am sure I will pick the hobby up again at a later time.

Oh man!! what has happened?
jeremyreef
11-27-2010, 11:04 AM
I just should have taken precautions that I didn't and I am paying for it now. Coals that have algae on them are going in the trash. The rest will be sold for cheap. The tank needs the same thing done that you did really but I have no spare rock to do so. I have decided to give up for now. Thinking about keeping chalice and acans maybe, but in a downsized tank.

I hear your woe's man! I was close to tearing down myself and starting completely over. I am sorry to hear about this Jeremy. What algae is giving you grief? If there is anything I can do to help let me know. Eric found a place that still has good grade Tonga rock. I may be placing an order after the Holidays. My tank needs more rock, plus I just moved the tonga from the sump to the DT, so need some more for my sump also. Save up some dough dude and maybe we can help get your tank turned around. Just let me know if you need help. I will do what I can.

It would be easier to name the kind I don't have...LOL I appreciate the offer for the help though.

Try Hydrogen Peroxide. 1 ml to 10 gallons - Once a day, go to twice a day if there are no ill affects after 3 days.
